Lions in Four is excited to share with the community an important team member. Meet Melanie, our Systems Manger! Melanie has a background in fashion from Kansas State University and a passion for sustainability, ethical manufacturing, and improving the fashion industry.
Melanie’s love of fashion started young. At the age of 14, she taught herself to sew. She continued to hone her skills throughout high school, sewing her own dresses for formals and designing items for family and friends. When it came time for college it was a natural transition to take her passion for fashion and make it into a career.
While in college Melanie had the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy. It was in Italy that she had a change of heart. She discovered that a typical career path in fashion wasn’t for her. She wanted to change the fashion industry for the better. When she returned from her time abroad, Melanie immersed herself in everything to do with sustainability and ethical sourcing. Her passion to make a difference in an industry that is laden with environmental and social justice problems is exactly why we are so lucky to have her. She is the perfect fit for Lions in Four!
Melanie’s roll with the LIF Foundation covers everything to do with hands-on implementation. From client on-boarding to product development, manufacturing to imports/exports, she is there for the whole life-cycle of a product. Her position also takes her to our artisan training center a few times a year where she works with the women we employ and train.
When Melanie isn’t working overseas or with us in Kansas City, you can find her at a coffee shop sipping on espresso, watching her favorite TV show Friends, or spending time with her dog Cassie.
