Freedom for All: A Battle Worth Fighting

As the fireworks fade, and the barbecues wrap up, we’ve been thinking a lot about freedom at Lions in Four.

Written in the first few lines of the United States’ Declaration of Independence is this:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

We have so much to be thankful for living in this nation. If you don’t stop and think, it’s easy to forget that not everyone on earth has the same rights and freedoms. Basic resources like access to clean drinking water and food are not a given. Freedom of speech is not a given. Fair justice systems are not a given. Because of our forefathers who forged the way for American independence back in 1776, we celebrate a nation that is free rather than oppressed. They were the voice of the American people of their time and everyone else to follow.

Organizations across the globe are on a mission to stand up for those who don’t have a voice or an advocate of their own who will fight for basic human rights and opportunities. Here are a few among many who are making great strides in the fight for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all.

IJM A global organization with a mission to protect the poor in developing nations from violence and to end modern day slavery. They’re in the business of rescuing victims of violence, delivering justice to criminals, restoring survivors, and helping to strengthen justice systems around the world.

Charity Water Bringing clean drinking water to people in developing nations is their mission. By working closely to other organizations they help fund programs to bring sustainable clean and safe drinking water to communities around the globe.

A21 With a goal for every human being to be free, A21 operates all across the globe to reach, rescue and restore victim of human trafficking. They’re a big advocate of empowering people with the knowledge of how to spot human exploitation in your community.

UNICEF A child advocacy believing that all children around the globe have the right to survive, thrive, and to reach their full potential. They fight to achieve this through the improvement of nutrition, shelter, conflicts, protection from disaster, and equality for all children.
