Fewer, Finer: Summer Edition

It’s time to update those summer staples. Time for bare shoulders and breezy fabrics. As you look to add new pieces to your wardrobe, remember to stick to those “fewer finer” rules. You want items that can mix-and-match, are crafted out of quality materials, and are classic shapes and colors.

This summer, the trends are all about off-the-shoulder tops and dresses, tassel and pom details, and ruffled sleeves. It can be tempting to reach for these fun and flirty styles, but resist purchasing anything too far off your personal taste. You may love it now, but as these trends roll out and new ones arrive you may find yourself ignoring these pieces come next summer. Instead, reach for these classic “fewer, finer” picks we find stay in style year after year.

1. Basic Tee Dress: Great dressed up or down, this is the perfect pick for any summer occasion. Amour Vert has numerous colors and a few patterns to choose from, all composed of light fabrics comfortable for warm temperatures.

2. Classic Strappy Sandals: Update your footwear with a clean lined sandal in a neutral color that can transition from casual events to date night. Nisolo has sophisticated yet simple slide-on flats, as well as more strappy wedges. Check out the Serena Sandal for a pick that will look great with nearly anything.

3. Short Sleeve or Sleeveless Blouse: The key to this top is the fabric. We prefer silk or tencel. Pick a style that isn’t too boxy and can be worn with a variety of bottoms. Tuck the top into linen shorts or pair it with a cotton A-line skirt for a timeless look. Head over to Everlane to find this summer staple.

4. Striped Tee or Tank: Stripes shout “Summer time.” Choose a navy and white number for a nautical feel. Powder blue and white stripes are big this season, but also have staying power for seasons to come. Make sure you look for the right fit that will hold its shape. Madewell is one of our favorite places to snag one of these.
