Too much “stuff” can be overwhelming. That’s why we believe in the fewer, finer rule. That means identifying areas of our lives that are stuffed with too many things, paring down on those things, then making the conscious decision to only bring things back into our life that we can delight in.
The idea is, when we are okay with having fewer things, we free up time, space and funds for finer things.
One of our favorite places to pare down is our closets. What’s more fun than cleaning a closet out? Replacing the old with new, versatile and timeless pieces that will last longer.
Here are my favorite fewer, finer tops that will last for fall and winter seasons to come!
- V- neck thin sweaters: Great on their own, with delicately layered necklaces, statement jewelry, collared shirts and of course scarves! Eileen Fisher and Everlane are great brands whose high quality I can vouch for.
- Button downs in silk and super soft cottons: The key here is to make sure they are thin enough for layering under sweaters, blazers, or even on top of another button down. Tip: To get the best fit, make sure shoulder seams fall right at the tip of your shoulder, and there is enough room in the bust to prevent bulging buttons! Check out Equipment, Crew, and Madewell for these staples.
- A statement jacket: A statement jacket pulls together an outfit in a way that only a scarf can compare to. I wear them over jumpsuits, dresses, even sweats! There are a lot of great brands for jackets out there, but I really love Joie and Current Elliott.
- A transitional coat: Over-stuffed coat closets give me the winter blues. I believe in choosing a coat that can transition from jeans or evening wear. I love this short-sleeved coat because it can be layered so well and it doesn’t overwhelm the entire look. Trench coats with removable sleeves are also wonderful because they can double as a trench vest. I don’t have a favorite brand at this time when it comes to coats other than a classic Burberry Trench coat which is such a timeless investment.
